Visitor Agreement Policy

All users of the facility and spectators must have a current Visitor Agreement on file to enter any climbing or fitness area. If the user of the facility or spectator is under 18 years of age, the Visitor Agreement must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Gym Orientation Policy

All climbers and adult chaperones must complete a Gym Orientation with a Roca staff member before being granted access to any climbing area. This orientation is mandatory and will include an introduction to all of our climbing areas, climbing systems, facility rules, and policies. This orientation will take approximately 7 minutes and will be kept on file here at Roca for 6 months. 

Adult Supervision Policy

All youth under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult (over age 18) at all times while in the facility. Youth between 14 and 17 are not allowed to supervise youth under 14. Adults should NOT supervise more than 5 youth under age 14 while in the facility at any given time.

Gym Rules

1.  All persons visiting the Premises, whether participating in a Roca event or not (“Visitors”), shall check-in at the front desk before using the facility.  Visitors who fail to check-in may be asked to leave the Premises.

2. Visitors shall sign a Visitor Agreement/Waiver.  Visitors under the age of 18 shall have a parent or legal guardian sign a Visitor Agreement/Waiver.  Visitors may be asked to present photo identification. 

3. Visitors shall complete the Gym Orientation.  Visitors under the age of 14 shall be accompanied by a parent or adult chaperone during the Gym Orientation and must be actively supervised by an adult (over 18) at all times while in the facility.     

4.  Visitors shall obey all warning signs posted on the Premises.

5.  Visitors are responsible for the condition of their personal gear, which is limited to a harness, shoes, belay device, chalk bag and chalk.  Roca Climbing & Fitness reserves the right to deem a Visitor’s personal gear unfit for use on the Premises.

6. Visitors shall notify Roca staff immediately of any defects in the equipment in the facility.

7. Visitors agree not to receive technical instructions (including, but not limited to, belaying and knot-tying instruction) from individuals not employed by Roca.

8.  A Visitor shall not belay or tie in until he/she has successfully completed Roca’s skills test.  The Figure-8 follow-through knot is the only acceptable tie-in knot allowed to be used in the gym.

9.   Visitors must be 14 or older and pass the Roca skills test to Top Rope Belay. Visitors must be 15 or older and pass the Roca skills test to Lead Belay. Visitors 13 and older must perform a Roca skills test to Lead Climb. Parents or chaperones of Visitors under the age of 14 are responsible for verifying that youth under 14 are properly secured into Auto Belay and/or any other climbing equipment.

10. Visitors under the age of 14 shall not boulder without direct parental supervision. Youth under 14 are not allowed on top of the boulder.

11. Roca strictly prohibits un-roped climbing above 16 feet.  Roca recommends un-roped climbing no higher than the point where the Visitor’s feet reach his/her shoulder height when standing on the landing surface. NO traversing where auto belay gates are in the gym.

12. Visitors shall watch where they walk under and near the climbing walls and bouldering areas, and shall be aware of any hazards or objects in the climbing area.  Visitors shall look above for climbers and be aware of where other climbers are at all times.

13. Practicing advanced skills (such as: aid climbing, multi-pitch climbing, anchor building, rappelling, etc.) are NOT permitted outside of Roca-lead classes.  Visitors shall not stand, sit, or lie down under any climbing walls or bouldering areas.  Visitors shall not climb above, below, or near other climbers.  Visitors shall be courteous and take turns

14. Roca strictly prohibits climbing above the top anchors on any climbing surface/wall as well as untying or unclipping while on the rappel ledge.  Visitors shall be secured to an anchor at all times.

15. Roca strictly prohibits the use of top ropes on the competition wall.  Visitors shall obtain the proper lead rope for use on the competition wall.  Roca provided ropes are the only ropes to be used in the facility.  

16. Visitors are strictly prohibited from jumping off any structures in the facility, running, roughhousing, yelling, and making other distracting noise while on the Premises.

17. Visitors will use the slides in the blue carpet area with safety and caution. Visitors will take turns and go feet first.

18. Visitors shall only wear clean gym shoes appropriate for climbing in the Premises. Bare feet are NOT allowed on the Premises.

19. No food or drink is allowed in the climbing area, bouldering area, yoga studio, or fitness equipment area.

20. Roca strictly prohibits the use of ear buds or any other personal listening device while in the climbing areas of the gym.

21. Roca strictly prohibits Visitors under the age of 16 from using the fitness equipment located on the fitness deck.

22. Roca strictly prohibits the use of any equipment by Visitors under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

23. Roca strictly prohibits the use of drugs. alcohol, tobacco, and e-cigarettes on the Premises including outside on Roca’s property.

24. Roca bans firearms and other weapons from the Premises.

25. Visitors who fail to abide by Rules will be asked to leave the Premises and will be deemed to have forfeited the admission fee.

Roca Belaying/Climbing Expectations 

We expect that climbers and belayers follow all the safety precautions of the gym. The following list are belaying and climbing errors that will result in a verbal warning and/or automatic removal of belay privileges.  Repeated infractions may result in loss of membership privileges.  These expectations are to be followed whether Roca Staff are watching you or not.

Red: (Belay Tag will be taken)

  • Dropping your climber to the ground after first clip

  • Taking hand off the brake strand 

  • Excessive slack (enough for a ground fall or more than 3 clips length)

  • Holding both brake and climber strand with one hand in non-locking position

  • Not tying figure 8 correctly 

  • Improper belay device set up 

Orange: (1 Warning)

  • Tunneling/Tubing (Sliding one hand up brake strand without back-up hand) 

  • Switching brake-hands

  • Skipping clips on a lead climb 

  • Not doing safety double checks (Checking yourself and your partner)

  • Lowering your climber faster than the auto belay

  • Not putting hand in brake position after a fall

  • Improperly feeding slack through an assisted braking device

Yellow: (2-3 Warnings)

  • Victory whips (Intentionally falling while lead climbing) 

  • Back clipping / not recognizing your climber back clipping

  • Z-clipping / not recognizing your climber Z-clipping

  • Stepping behind the rope while lead climbing

  • Not paying attention/talking to a non-climber while belaying 

  • Not reattaching auto belay carabiner to the belay gate after belaying

  • Not having your Roca belay tag visible

  • Lowering climber with brake hand(s) above the belay device

  • Sitting while belaying

***Once your belay tag has been taken, you will need to wait 1 week prior to re-testing. You may request permission from Front Desk Staff to practice while your climber is on an auto belay during that 1 week period. If your belay tag has been taken and you fail your test on the next attempt you must retake Roca’s belay class (Learn the Ropes class). 


Roca reserves the right to amend these Rules and Expectations at any time without notice and all Visitors shall be subject to such amendment.
